Welcome to our latest fortnightly round-up of all things #unitennis! This week’s edition includes a look ahead to the BUCS Individual Championships Finals later this month, and details of which players will be representing GB universities in an annual fixture at Wimbledon this weekend.
BUCS Individual Championships
We are 2 weeks away from the BUCS Individual Championships Finals at Loughborough University 19-22 April 2018. Following five exceptionally competitive regional qualifiers, the event at will see the culmination of the biggest individual national tennis competition for university students. The finals comprise four events – Men’s and Women’s Singles and Men’s and Women’s doubles – whose draws boast an astonishing 22 current or previously ATP/WTA world-ranked players highlighting the tremendously high level of British university tennis.

Great Britain University Team take on the All England Club at Wimbledon
Good luck to the Great Britain university team that are taking on the All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon this Sunday 08 April 2018. The annual fixture is one of a number of friendly fixtures in the calendar for the team, used to help prepare for international student competitions such as the BNP Paribas Master U’ and World University Games. This year the team comprises Loughborough University’s George Houghton and Olivia Sofroniou and University of Bath’s Ben Jones and Ellie-Rose Griffiths – selected for their commitment to and high performance in university tennis.

GB Universities team captain Alistair Higham said “This is one of the highlights of the calendar year. The All England Club are excellent hosts of this highly competitive fixture. It is a great chance for students who have been successful in the BUCS National League to experience competing at the most famous club in the world.”
Coast to Coast for Cancer Research
Six members of the Leeds Beckett men’s tennis team are cycling from Hull to Liverpool on 5 and 6 April 2018. They will be covering a total of 142 miles over the two days in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Also in April, the university women’s tennis team are taking on the Yorkshire 3 peak challenge – aiming to complete the walk in less than 24 hours for Breast Cancer Care.
