Other Schools Competitions

Whilst we have created a structure for our National and Local competitions which ensures a level of consistency and standardisation, we are understanding of differing local needs and will provide support and flexibility for other types of competitions where appropriate.

Internally within the school, these may include:

  • Singles or Doubles Ladders
  • Singles or Doubles Leagues
  • House Matches / Leagues / Challenges
  • One Off Tournaments linked to a high profile event (Wimbledon etc)
  • Cardio Tennis
  • Timed Matches
  • Playground Challenges

Depending on your school's circumstances, the above formats can all be run either at; lunchtime, after school, at the weekend, or in the holidays.

We are currently working closely with The Youth Sport Trust, to develop a new range of Intra School Competition Resources, which will be made available later in September 2008.

You may also wish to arrange competitive opportunities with other schools, these may include:

  • Primary Schools - Mini Tennis Orange & Green events, for more advanced players in your school:
    • A school (or tennis club) can act as a central host venue for various teams to compete with each other on one day.
    • Alternatively, if facilities and logistics allow, teams can compete against each other on a weekly home and away basis.
  • Primary Schools - Mini Tennis events (one-off or league) could be run for other age groups in addition to the Year 3&4 local competitions that are in place.
  • Secondary Schools - events (one-off or league) could be run for other age groups in addition to the Year 7&8 local competitions that are in place.

Over the coming year, The Tennis Foundation will be working on the prodiction of a comprehensive range of resources and formats to support other types of competition stated above.

All the above resources will be made available on this website in late 2008, however if you require support in the meantime, please contact us.

Your first point of call should be your local LTA Tennis Development Manager or Officer. Contact details for the LTA's 'field team' can be found at: LTA County Contacts.
