Higher & Further Education
The Tennis Foundation will be working hard over the next year to expand the playing, competing and coach education opportunities in further and higher education.
Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE):
The Tennis Foundation works closely with The LTA to operate the AASE Scheme, which gives 16-18yr olds the chance to join a squad of players in their local area, get 12 hours of free high quality training per week, whilst continuing their education.
The qualifications which can be gained include an NVQ (3) in Achieving Excellence in Sporting Performance, Tennis UKCC Level 1 and 2 in Coaching, Communication Key Skills Level 2 and Application of Number Key Skills Level 2.
More information about the AASE Scheme.
The Tennis Leaders Award
The Tennis Foundation works closely with The LTA to offer the Tennis Leader Award, which encourages young people to play an active role in their tennis club or schools tennis programme.
14-18 year olds can attend awards courses, at their local club or school, through which they will learn and develop their leadership skills.
It's a great opportunity for personal development, both within tennis and also more generally. Young people learn new skills, get useful experience and increase their confidence.
The course is a stepping stone which can enable them to become further involved in tennis either as a coach, official or volunteer.

Level 1 Coaching Assistant Course
The Level 1 Coaching Assistant course focuses on the tools you need to help beginners play Ariel Mini Tennis. It will help you develop your communication and organisational skills and it also covers the basic tactical/technical skills needed for beginners to compete at Ariel Mini Tennis. The course also covers issues of health and safety, child protection and equity.
The structure of the course is 21 hours of tuition with LTA qualified tutors. This will usually take place over two consecutive days. There is then a three-to-six week break followed by a final assessment day.
