Careers in tennis

Don't just think of tennis as a game to play & enjoy, think of it as a career. If you're passionate about the sport, the possibilities are endless.

Coaching

*

Coaching is a rewarding career with loads of options. You can coach children or adults, beginners, club players or aspire to coach performance tennis. You can coach in parks, schools or clubs.

For more on how to jump-start your coaching career, take a look at the LTA coaching pages.

Officiating

*

There are two avenues within officiating; becoming an umpire and becoming a referee.

A referee is responsible for organising the draw and order of play at a tournament, and making decisions on any rules issues that arise. If you like the idea of running the show and dealing with people then this might be for you.

Umpires work on-court at tournaments and events, and there are two types of umpire: Line umpire and chair umpire - most umpires do both. If you've got great eyesight and hearing, a loud voice and are happy to have the final say then you might enjoy being an umpire.

For more information on training to be an official visit the Officiating section of the LTA website.
