Louise Hunt claimed victory in the women’s doubles at the ITF 1 Daegu Open, with Marc McCarroll finishing runner-up in the men’s doubles as both Brits brought their three week tour of Asia to an end.
Hunt and the USA’s Dana Mathewson beat China’s Jinlian Huang and Korea’s Ju-Youn Park 6-3, 3-6, (10-7) in a deciding match tie-break in their second women’s doubles final in as many weeks.
Hunt and Mathewson went one better than they had in the women’s doubles at the Korea Open a week ago.
McCarroll and Dutchman Maikel Scheffers finished runners-up in the men’s doubles after slipping to a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Japanese second seeds Satoshi Saida and Takashi Sanada in the final.
Earlier in the day fifth seed McCarroll also bowed out in the men’s singles semi-finals as top seed and world No.8 Scheffers advanced to the final 6-3, 6-3.
Hunt and McCarroll’s three weeks in Asia began by representing Great Britain in the World Team Cup in Tokyo, Japan at the end of May.
British No.3 Marc McCarroll has upset the tournament seeding to reach the men’s singles semi-finals at this week’s ITF 1 Series Daegu Open in South Korea.
McCarroll and Louise Hunt are also into the men’s and women’s doubles finals.
A quarter-finalist at last week’s Korea Open, fifth seed McCarroll defeated South African fourth seed Evans Maripa 7-5, 6-4 in the last eight in Deagu. Having started the tournament with a 5-7,6-4, 6-2 victory over Korea’s Siung-Bong Han to earn his quarter-final meeting with Maripa, McCarroll will now play Dutch top seed Maikel Scheffers.
McCarroll has also partnered Scheffers to the men’s doubles final. The top seeds dropped just two games to Korea’s Ji-Hwan Lee and Australia’s Keegan Oh-Chee to book their places in the last four. The Brits will now play Japanese second seeds Satoshi Saida and Takashi Sanada for the title.
Hunt has reached her second women’s doubles final in successive weeks in Korea.
Hunt and the USA’s Dana Mathewson, runners-up at the Korea Open, beat Japan’s Emi Suda and Manami Tanaka 6-4, 6-2 in their opening match in Daegu. They will now play China’s Jinlian Huang and Korea’s Ju-Youn Park for the title after winning their semi-final against Chilean duo Macarena Cabrillana and Maria Diaz 6-2, 6-4.
However, after dropping just five games in her first two singles matches against Korea’s Jee Hae Kim and Myung-Hee Hwang, Hunt’s bid to reach her second singles final in successive weeks came to an end against Huang. The Chinese player won her semi-final against the British No.3 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
